Saluda, North Carolina

Since the early 1800s, coastal resident traveled to the Blue Ridge Mountains to find respite from the oppressive heat and the threat of malaria.

Today, Saluda appears as it did when locomotives negotiated the “steepest standard-gauge railroad grade in the United States”.   Main Street remains home to the public library, the police department, City Hall and the post office.  Saluda exists like a movie set at 2,300 feet.
